If you haven’t seen my twitter timeline
a) where have you been? (don’t answer that – the answer is probably wrapping presents, shopping, more wrapping and then some panic buying)
b) I only WON Christmas at Coombemill, home to country kids!
We packed up and left on Saturday, braving some atrocious weather through Dorset, but thankfully the sun arrived as we drove into Cornwall. We made the journey in an impressive 3 hours which was a bit of a surprise and shocked Fiona who had yet to light the fire ready for our arrival.
Home for the next week is Heligan, an impressive timber cabin and to say it’s comfortable is an understatement. It is bigger than our house and all the kids have their own room!
Inside the cabin to greet us was a real Christmas tree with decorations in a box waiting to be decorated. Isaac got stuck in straight away!
Arriving at 1pm we had missed that days feed run, but we did explore some of the play zones and find some wooden reindeer decorated with tinsel….
and we went on the Santa Express much to the delight of Eliza and Isaac.
The evening was spend chilling out waiting for our Asda delivery to arrive, after some training from Fiona’s eldest son on how to light the fire and keep it lit! The cabin is warm and cosy and we have been so warm that we have switched off the heating and are relying on the heat from the log burner to keep warm.
Day 2 and the kids were up at the crack of dawn itching to do the feed run and what an adventure that is!
The kids get transported around the farm by tractor whilst we follow behind on foot. Isaac was so proud that he got to drive it with the help of Farmer Nick and I think he wanted a go on the boys Quad Bike which was carrying hay bales for the animals.
All the animals knew it was breakfast time and were making a racket as they waited to greet us. Eliza and Isaac were a little shy at first but soon got the hang of it!
We watched as what appeared to be rain approach from a neighbouring field and were soon battered by a freak hail storm so hubby left with Sebastian whilst we took refuge in the tractor. The hail turned to rain and the sun soon reappeared!
The older kids were asked to go and shepherd some sheep down from an upper field as Farmer Nick needed to give them some medicine. Kian didn’t need asking twice and shot off with the Coombemill boys. They appeared ten minutes later whooping and shouting to make the very reluctant sheep move down the hill!
It did feel like we saw all four seasons in one day and there was so much hail that it actually looked like it had been snowing!
The rest of the day was spent playing with newly made friends and Eliza and Isaac joined Chrissie from
Mediocre Mum and her family – they even got to decorate some biscuits!
It’s currently day 3 and the weather can only be described as wild! We braved the feed run in the driving rain and high winds and this time we actually saw the Wallabies!
Isaac was disappointed not to see the Stag but we explained he was off doing his flight training with Father Christmas – am explanation he was very happy with and he got to feed the deer that were there.
It was lovely to see Eliza and Isaac more relaxed and confident today as they knew what they were doing.
By mid afternoon the rain has stopped, the wind subsided but the river has burst it’s banks! Kian has made friends with Fiona’s boys and we have barely seen him as he is off out having fun and it is so relaxing sat inside with the fire burning listening to the water gushing past in the river below!
I hadn’t realised that you had won, I am so jealous! That sounds amazing, we really have to go one day. Hope you continue to have a fantastic time, Happy Christmas 🙂

Kara you have been amazing and really embraced everything we offer here at Coombe Mill regardless of the weather.
