Kayaking at Studland, Dorset

A few weeks ago we went Coasteering with Studland Sea School and were introduced to a whole new world of water sports to enjoy locally that we had never even known was available.

I then met Michael from Go Canoeing who were with Studland Sea School at Bournemouth Family Festival.  The kids got to have a go on some static canoes whilst I learned all about the fun that canoeing has to offer and decided to book the boys in for a kayaking tour of Old Harry’s Rocks in Dorset.

We arrived just before 9am and found the beach almost deserted so Isaac and Eliza had plenty of space to run around whilst hubby and Kian donned their wetsuits.  All the equipment was provided by Studland Sea School so we didn’t have to worry about taking anything with us.

The first part of the session involved warming up, practicing their balance (which was most amusing as a spectator), checking spacial awareness and learning how to use their paddles.

And then they were off………

I was impressed by how quickly hubby and Kian got into a rhythm and watched as they powered off behind Guy, who was leading the group.

We waved them off and got on with some serious business of playing in the sea!

The Kayak tour took in the sights of South Beach, out around Old Harry Rocks to Swanage and back again, taking the time to explore caves and even getting out at Old Harry Rocks for a rest.

The boys were gone for about 2.5 hours which was plenty of time as they were exhausted by the time they got back to us on the beach, buzzing about what they had seen and done.

Next time they go out we shall invest in a waterproof camera so we can keep a record of their adventures out to sea.

Isaac was desperate to join them on the kayaks and was delighted to learn that they do special tours for kids aged 4 and over.  I cant wait to see his face when we tell him he gets to do it too in a couple of weeks.
Meanwhile we showed Daddy and Kian what we had been doing whilst they were gone.

  1. What a fantastic day by the beach, and how great for Isaac that he gets to have a go soon too. We have a watersports centre near us – and I might see about getting my boys to try something similar next Summer. It looks great fun x

  2. What a great day out for everyone! While Daddy and Kian had fun kayaking the rest of you had fun on the beach. How great that Isaac will get to have a go soon too – I will look forward to seeing your post on that. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
