The Sun has got his hat on!

Sun, glorious sun – I don’t know where this major change in the weather has come from but long may it continue.

There is something about the sun that makes everyone more cheerful…….

Could it be the excuse to eat Ice Cream?

Mr Whippy

or getting out and about in the great outdoors……

or visiting to the nearest beach…….

maybe it’s the perfect excuse to drink this?

I had a visit from my Mum last week, who is a major sun worshipper but even more so these days now she has Solar Panels.  They had them installed onto their garage roof when they moved into their house five years ago and have been breaking even on their fuel bills every year since.  With this sunny weather they have noticed a real increase in electricity production and if this weather continues will actually turn a profit this year.

If I am honest, I wish we had Solar Panels installed a couple of years ago when the government was offering a decent incentive scheme and am now kicking myself for not exploring the options quicker.  When we did get around to looking into it, it was far too expensive and we chose to get our windows replaced instead, however, it is something we would seriously consider if we came into some money as there are many benefits to solar energy:

  • Cut your electricity bills: sunlight is free, so once you’ve paid for the initial installation your electricity costs will be reduced.
  • Get paid for the electricity you generate: the government’s Feed-In Tariffs pay you for the electricity you generate, even if you use it.
  • Sell electricity back to the grid: if your system is producing more electricity than you need, or when you can’t use it, you can sell the surplus back to the grid.
  • Cut your carbon footprint: solar electricity is green, renewables energy and doesn’t release any harmful carbon dioxide] or other pollutants. A typical home solar PV system could save over a tonne of carbon dioxide per year – that’s more than 30 tonnes over its lifetime.

The only issue I have is the amount of cold callers I get on the phone offering Solar panels at “unbeatable prices” – I am afraid I will no longer talk to these people.

If looking at Solar Panels my advise is to do your homework, shop around for more than one quote and I can highly recommend the moneysaving expert.com page which offers sound advice.
