LEGO Chima Challenge at Chessington

We had a very busy weekend over Easter – not only did we attend the launch of the new Lego Hero Factory Film – Brain Attack at Legoland Windsor, but we also got to be some of the first to try the Lego Chima Challenge it’s launch at Chessington.

Lego

The Lego Chima Challenge will run for seven months until October 2013 and the roadshow will highlight the new Speedorz sets – a social game “consisting of fun, fast and furious challenges that can be played singly or with friends”.

Players use a rip cord device to race their Speedorz, and during the tour, which will also visit major shopping centres, children will be invited to take the Speedorz challenge, where they can race with Chima characters and the grand finale will take place when the road show closes in Chessington. During the launch, we were introduced to the Chima characters – all based on animals and living in tribes.

We even got to meet Laval and Cragga!

Now let me say, that this challenge is not as easy as it looks but all the boys had great fun with it!
First we had to get the Speedorz through the arch……..

Then we had to land the Speedorz on the landing pad – we didn’t manage this one!

The boys contemplated their next move……

They then had to  knock the Chi ball off the tower…….

The Lego Chima assistants give full instructions and keep score, so there is no cheating and it was a completely fair challenge as Isaac did as well as, if not better than his big brothers!

Final scores were (out of a possible 550):

Callan – 400

Isaac – 300

Kian – 200

After we had finished we could explore the park at our leisure and were some of the first to try the new Zufari ride.

I have to admit that we were a little disappointed with Zufari.  Firstly, riders had to be over 1.1m which meant that I could not go on with the little ones.  Isaac did console himself with some African drum playing though.

It was a very popular ride and queues were quite large all day.  The ride consists of an African “Safari” tour with a twist, but from the people I spoke to as well as our own experience we only saw two Zebra and a Giraffe.  I am hoping that once the weather warms up it will be much better.

The older boys disappeared off to do some of the “bigger rides” so the little ones and I explored the zoo and had fun on the Carousel and the trucks.

Favourite rides of the day for Kian and Callan were the Vampire, Dragon’s Fury, Kobra and Rameses Revenge (although they did look a little green on that one).

I was more than happy with the rather more sedate Big Wheel, where we could see Wembley and Central London in the distance!

I had not visited Chessington for quite a few years, and I was impressed to see some of my old favourites still there, such as the Bubbleworks and they have a lot more for small children to do too.
It is certainly the most versatile of the Merlin parks I have visited, as there really is something for everyone, be it the Zoo, white knuckle rides, the Sealife centre or just a play area for the kids.  The new Hotel looked amazing too!
